12/14/2023 0 Comments Xperia xz premium slow motionWe got 72 hours with the Xperia XZ, so that's a pretty consistent result. In looping our test video until the battery is down to 10%, the Xperia XZ lasts for north of 9 hours, which is a very good endurance.Ĭoupled with frugal standby power consumption, the above numbers add up to a combined endurance rating of 73 hours. Web browsing over Wi-Fi depletes the Xperia XZs battery in just over 8 hours - not spectacular, but not far from what the XZ and Z5 offered. In our tests the Xperia XZs proved to be excellent at voice calls and an otherwise balanced performer in the other disciplines. That's also the same capacity as the Xperia Z5 before it, while the Xperia X Performance has a 2,700mAh power pack. The Xperia XZs relies on a 2,900mAh battery to keep it powered, the same unit we met in the Xperia XZ. The Xperia XZs is on par with the Xperia XZ and the iPhone 6s, and a little short of the iPhone 7’s contrast under direct light. High quality LCD displays have been getting near AMOLEDs in this regard, even if they can't quite match the best of them. Sunlight legibility on this screen is superb. Maybe this will change with a future update. There is an sRGB mode in the Developer's Options, but it did not do anything on our unit. Sony provides sliders that help you get rid of the blue cast at least. The average DeltaE of 6.2 is decent, but there is a pronounced blue cast to whites and grays. Display testĬolor reproduction is not particularly good, though. The blacks are nicely dark, but not as impressive as on the XZ.Īt the lowest setting, brightness is easy on the eyes at 4.9 nits. The maximum brightness of 564 nits achieved in manual mode is consistent across the auto modes too. The display posted very good scores across the board, the only exception being color accuracy. The screen of the Xperia XZs offers a more than reasonable 424ppi, and comes with X-Reality color and contrast enhancements in the Album and Video apps. Not that we need anything higher on a 5.2-inch screen. However, the XZs gets a familiar 1080p IPS display. The mode, however, springs into action only when it detects motion.Unmoved by the QHD screen hype, Sony is skipping straight to 4K on the Premium models. Just so you know, predictive capture works by default in the Xperia XZ Premium, which means that it is active all the time. Once you've taken the picture, the camera app would show you four different cases of the same photo - three taken automatically by the sensor and one taken by you - and you can then chose to keep either all of them or select the best possible outcome. The focus is on getting the best possible - blur-free - result out of the given scenario. The sensor then (predictively) captures three random shots of the object in motion before you actually press the shutter key. As soon as you fire up the camera app and should there be some sort of motion in view the phone's sensor is able to predict the same. The Xperia XZ Premium's rear camera - Motion Eye - also apparently has a knack for moving objects. But, more importantly, for the first time in a long time, Sony has favoured larger individual pixels that should technically increase light sensitivity resulting in better low-light photos. The Xperia XZ Premium sports a 19-megapixel camera on the rear - f/2.0 aperture - assisted with predictive phase detection and laser autofocus, but no Optical Image Stabilisation. The recording - when played - would then play as standard video interrupted by 6 seconds of dramatic slow-mo depending on how many you recorded. Pushing the toggle once again would capture one more freeze-frame. The sensor would then capture a super slow-motion 960 fps video for a period of 0.182 seconds (only because that's all the time it takes to fill up the 128MB DRAM layer of memory) before going standard again. You then wait for that perfect moment you want to freeze in time and push the same toggle again. Once enabled, the process begins with a standard recording. You begin by pushing the super slow-mo toggle that sits next to the standard video recording toggle. While the latter is quite straight-forward, the former would be a little more adventurous. Since, 9 out of 10 times, your subject would be in some sort of motion (because, that's the whole point of recording a slow-mo) you'll have to be quick to make that decision. You can either record a regular video interrupted by short spats of slow-mos or a full-scale slow-mo depending on the situation at hand. There are two ways in which you can record a super slow-mo with the Xperia XZs.
